The first method of programming machines was by plug-in leads or by mechanical switches which changed state depending on a previous calculation.
The first purely electronic means of programming was machine code, simply binary 0s and 1's setting out instruction codes.
The following languages were developed to translate 'English' into machine code instruction and were known as 'Assembly Languages' then put through a through a compiler, to generate the codes.
